Edge Creative Trails- Open Studio

“Discover where art is made in the Inner West and explore hidden artists' studios, independent galleries and quirky artist run initiatives.

Meet your local artists and makers and take a glimpse into their workspaces, challenge yourself creatively with a workshop or be inspired by a guided tour of local studios.”

The Inner West Open Studio Trail (formerly IWOST) is now called Edge Creative trails and has been expanded to included all of the Inner West! It’s so huge, it’s split into 4 areas!

My home studio in part of the upcoming weekend Damun-Djarrawunang- Ashfield to Newtown 9th and 10th of November. Open to the public from 10am - 5pm on both Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th November

My studio is up a teeny tiny staircase, so I can’t have people up there, and now my garden is being renovated so I may be holding my ‘open studio on my front verge, but I’ll certainly be there, with my work on show and ready to talk about art and art making, all weekend!

Stay tuned on Instagram or Facebook for more info. The council will be posting all the maps and locations and tour times on their website very soon.

Betwixt and Between: The Art Mother's Make

Betwixt and Between: The Art Mother's Make

This is an exhibition of 5 female artists who find themselves betwixt and between the demands of the early years of motherhood, and the demands of a dedicated art practice.

Each artist’s practice is shaped by the common experience of painting in the stolen moments between the routines of parenting, day jobs and other commitments. Upon embracing motherhood, each artist has had to find a new way to continue a dedicated practice.

With better childcare support systems in place and fathers who are more actively involved in caring for children, artists are more open to having kids. Raising a family and making art can, in fact, become one seamless activity.

While parenting does, of course, create logistical obstacles to navigate, motherhood does not change the identity or curtail artists’ ambitions—it often reinforces it.
